Iyengar Yoga

Iyengar Yoga is a form of Hatha Yoga named after B.K.S. Iyengar. The correct body alignment in the yoga postures (asanas) and breathing exercises (pranayamas) form the basis for yoga according to B.K.S. Iyengar. Iyengar experimented with the use of numerous aids such as belts, blocks, chairs, walls and wall ropes to enable every student, regardless of age or physical condition, to achieve the correct alignment in the yoga postures.

The Iyengar method also works with the principle of meditation in action. By bringing the body into balance and strengthening weak areas - stiff areas are made mobile, the practitioners gain a balanced overall state in addition to flexibility, stability, strength and endurance.B.K.S. Iyengar saw body, mind and soul as a unity and did not distinguish between physical and spiritual yoga.
